Corrections Policy — RecoverFunds.ca
We publish information about companies that regulators have warned about. Getting a detail wrong on a page like that has consequences, so we correct errors quickly and we record that we did.
If something on this site is wrong, tell us
Write to us through the contact page with:
- The page address the error is on
- What is incorrect, quoted from the page if possible
- What the correct information is
- A source we can check, where one exists
You do not need to be the subject of the page to report an error. Readers who spot a wrong date, a broken source link or a name that does not match the regulator's notice are welcome to send those in.
What we do with it
We check the report against the original regulator notice and the registration record.
- Factual errors — a wrong date, a misattributed regulator, a misspelled company name, a broken or incorrect source link — are corrected as soon as they are confirmed.
- Identity errors — where we have connected the wrong company or person to a warning — are treated as urgent. If the identity of the subject is genuinely in doubt while we check, the page comes down until it is resolved rather than staying up in a state we are unsure of.
- Superseded information — an operation that has been shut down, has rebranded, or has been the subject of a later regulatory decision — is updated, and the modification date on the page changes with it.
Corrected pages carry an updated review date. Where a correction changes the substance of what a page said, we note the change on the page itself rather than editing silently.
If you are the company named on a page
The page reports what a named regulator published, quotes that regulator's own wording, and links to the original notice. We will correct any factual error in how we have reported it.
What we will not do is remove an accurate report of a published regulatory warning because the subject objects to it, and we do not accept payment for removal or amendment.
If the warning itself has been withdrawn, rescinded or resolved by the regulator that issued it, send us the regulator's own record of that and we will update the page to reflect it, including removing it where that is what the record supports.
If you are being impersonated
Many of the warnings we report concern clone operations using the name, registration number or branding of a legitimate registered firm. If that is happening to your business, contact us. We will make sure the page states plainly that your firm is unconnected to the fraud and is itself a target of it. That is usually more useful to you than removal, because the page is what people find when they search the name the fraudster is using.
Requests we decline
- Removal of an accurate report of a published regulatory warning
- Payment-linked changes of any kind
- Requests to soften language to something that no longer conveys the regulator's warning
Our standards for what goes on these pages are in the editorial policy, and the verification process is described in how we verify fraud warnings.
